Palestinian activist Roshan Dadoo says there was a good turnout at a solidarity march to support Palestinians in their quest for freedom and their right to pray at Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.

Dadoo was speaking to Radio Islam on Tuesday from the scene of a protest march in Sandton in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they come under attack from Israeli occupation forces.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least 21 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air raids on the besieged Gaza Strip.

The Gaza health ministry says children were among those killed in the attacks.

Palestinian resistance in Gaza fired a number of rockets on Monday towards Israeli controlled areas in Jerusalem in retribution for Israeli crimes at Masjid Al-Aqsa.

Dadoo says South African stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

We are really pleased that so many people, South Africans feel so strongly that they want to show their support for the Palestinians, their support for Palestinian resistance, both in Jerusalem and the atrocious and appalling storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday and then repeatedly after that. As well as of course the people who’ve been forcibly removed from Sheikh Jarrah and today of course people in Gaza.”

Dadoo was speaking outside the Israeli trade office in Sandton saying they want to bring the message home that all business with Israel must cease.

“We can’t do trade and business as normal with an abnormal state, with an apartheid state. Yesterday we sent an open letter to Naledi Pandor of Dirco to say that enough is enough, it’s time for South Africa to take a leading role to stand up, to say apartheid is taking place in Israel.”

Dadoo says the time has also come to cut all ties with Israel and for South Africa to use it role in the United Nations (UN) and call for sanctions, an arms embargo including calling out Israel as an apartheid state.
