[LISTEN] Palestinians in Umm al-Fahm Intensify Eight Week Protests Demanding to Live in Peace

Palestinian activist Baraa Shrem says they have been protesting every Friday  for more than eight weeks to live in peace.

Shrem was speaking Radio Islam live from Palestine about Palestinians living in constant fear even from their own in Umm al-Fahm.

Umm al-Fahm is located in the heart of Palestine known as the “Triangle Area.”

Shrem says they have intensified their protest to live in peace.

He say police claim that the crime waves are a result of Palestinians traditions and culture.

“We go to the streets protesting asking and demanding for one thing, to live in peace. We are suffering from organised crime and from police negligence regarding this issue.  If you look at the streets, we are asking the police to stop cooperating with the criminals.”

Shrem says the Israeli police and army are supplying weapons to organised crime groups.

“The source of all the guns with the organised crime is from the Israeli military or the Israeli police. They are claiming that these guns are being stolen. But if you look at the data there’s more than four hundred thousand pieces of illegal guns in the hands of organised crime with Israel and Arabs in Israel.”

Shrem says arrested criminals are not being prosecuted because they want residents of Umm al-Fahm to live in fear.
