[LISTEN] Ryno de Beer: COVID-19 Lockdown Ended on 23 June

The president of the Liberty Fighters Network, Reyno de Beer says all the COVID-19 lockdown regulations in South Africa are violating human rights.

The  little-known organisation that came out of the blue to win a High Court case that declared South Africa’s lockdown level three and four regulations to be unconstitutional and invalid, is arguing that the COVID-19 lockdown is legally over as of yesterday.

Judgment was reserved in the application brought by the government for leave to appeal against an earlier judgment by the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, in which most of the lockdown regulations were declared invalid.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma asked the court for leave to appeal the ruling to a higher court.

Speaking to Radio Islam, De Beer says those who believe Judge Norman Davis erred when making his decision and that it will be overturned have not been in court.

“They have not studied our papers. Because if they had, then they would have known that the answering affidavit of the minister was totally, totally dysfunctional. She never answered to every important questions. We’ve attached something like twenty eight annexures with factual scientific evidence with good arguments.”

De Beer says that according to Liberty Fighters Network and the way they interpret the law, the COVID-19 lockdown accept for some regulations ended on 23 June.

“We are actively indicating to people if you feel that the lockdown is over, go out, enjoy yourselves, go back to normal.”

De Beer says they will be writing to government informing them that if they do not stop the lockdown measures, Liberty Fighters Network will consider taking the matter to the African Commission for Human and People’s Rights and the United Nations.
