Local PR Councillor Zarina Motala has thanked the Lenasia community for coming to her assistance after a veld fire gutted a building at her house in Peacock Street.

Motala says a veld fire across the wetlands spread to a thatched roof lapa at three houses in the street on Monday.

She says the lapa’s were not attached to the homes.

“There’s no casualties Alhamdulillah, so we are all okay. The fire was very intense and due to the wind, it actually shattered some of the windows. A huge thank you to the community and everybody that came out and tried to assist and put the fire out, I just don’t think we can thank them enough.”

Motala says there is no indication as to how the veld fire was started.
