A 28-year-old woman has been strangled to death at her home in Vorna Valley Midrand north of Johannesburg Gauteng police said.

“This morning three suspects knocked at the door of the home and after a struggle managed to gain entry into the house and strangled the housewife,” said the police’s Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela.

According to a source, the domestic worker allegedly opened the door allowing the suspects to gain entry into the home.

Maphakela said the domestic worker was receiving trauma councelling and would be taken in for questioning.

He said a number of valuable items were stolen from the home including a firearm that was in the safe.

“At the moment we are still looking for the suspects,” said Maphakela.

A case of murder and house robbery has been opened.

The police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward which would assist with the investigation.
