Mmusi Maimane says DA Supportive of Masaajid Being Built in SA

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has told Radio Islam the party is supportive of Masaajid being built in South Africa.

Maimane visited Radio Islam studios on Wednesday while on the election campaign trail in Lenasia.

The DA has come under fire following reports that all political parties in Ballito except the DA had supported the building of a mosque in Townsend Park.

The DA took a caucus decision in KwaDukuza to call for further investigation into the sale of the land for a masjid.
Maimane says they are not opposed to the building of Masaajid.

“The matter in Ballito was very clear. The councilor in fact stated categorically that in fact they were supportive, they needed community consultation. The councilors never voted against the item and we’ve been supportive of mosques being built. I can take you to council after council, I can take you to Cape Town, I can take you to Joburg where there’s been thorough consultation, and there’s been a process upon which citizens have the right to say what they feel like saying.”

He says the DA is a multi-racial party that supports all faiths.

“You know why I love the DA? Because in the DA, it’s the only party where a Muslim can sit with a Jew and share a meal and have a discussion about the future of the country. Other parties want to divide both faith, that’s a fact.”

Maimane says the DA is going to find solutions to country’s problems that work for all citizens.
