Mufti Menk Quote Retweeted by Alleged Boston Bombing Suspect

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-04-21

Renowned Zimbabwean Muslim scholar  Mufti Ismail Menk has been drawn into the Boston Bombing drama. This comes after one of his tweets was retweeted by the 19-year-old alleged Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on his @J_tsar Twitter handle.

Mufti Menk tweeted, “Attitude can take away your beauty no matter how good looking you are or it could enhance your beauty, making you adorable.” — Mufti Ismail Menk (@muftimenk) April 17, 2013.

After Tsarnaev’s Twitter account was identified, Mufti Menk tweeted a quote about injustices perpetrated on the weak. “What destroyed previous nations was, when the elite perpetrated injustices they were not punished but when the weak did it, they were.” He followed it up shortly thereafter with a clarification that the quote “is taken from the sayings of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).”

Mufti Menk said he was not responsible for the retweets. “Whats noteworthy is that @J_tsar did not follow me @Muftimenk. Anyone care to notice that?” He condemned the Boston bombings saying on his Facebook page, “I would like to very strongly condemn the bombings in the US and express condolences to the families.”

“The perpetrators must face justice,” Mufti Menk posted.

Mufti Ismail Menk was born in Harare, based in Zimbabwe and studied in Madina, Saudi Arabia. He has a Twitter following of more than 100,000 and 200,000 Facebook followers.
