[LISTEN] Mufti Minty: Criminal Element May Be Involved in Klerksdorp Protest

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 26-04-2018

A resident of Klerksdorp says they are concerned about the protests in the North West that have spread from Mahikeng to Jouberton just outside the town.

Jouberton which is 5km outside Klerksdorp‚ was tense on Wednesday night as ongoing volatile protests gripped the North West province over Premier Supra Mahumapelo’s fate.

Protesters looted several shops near Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom yesterday.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Mufti Nazier Minty says while the protests may have been related to the removal of Mahumapelo, there is also a criminal element involved.

“I think this is more the criminal element involved. The removing of the North West Premier is top of the agenda, but that was supposed to be a protest yesterday. Already there were messages circulating for about a week before that ‘Klerksdorp is going to burn, Klerksdorp is going to burn’”.

Mufti Minty says the protests in Klerksdorp was well planned.
