Muslim Association of SA & Jamiat SA – “Ubuntu in Action” During COVID-19 Lockdown

As South Africa enters day 44 of the national lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Muslim Association of South Africa (MASA) together with the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa have been assisting the less fortunate with incredible feeding schemes.

The Jamiat and Masa have been handing out food parcels to various communities in and around Johannesburg.

Masa chairperson Yaseen Theba says there is definitely a growing demand for food with more and more people needing essential food items to survive during the lockdown.

One of the recipients whom Theba refers to as Madala with an infectious smile explained how hunger & poverty has affected residents of Cosmo City where he lives.

“Ya, eish I am hungry neh. There’s no food in my house. There’s nothing. I am not working. This Coronavirus, I don’t know when it’s going to finish. Eish I am suffering too much.”

Theba says Madala flashed his smile which gave him hope and helped him understand the meaning of Ubuntu in action.
