South Africa has lost another academic and Islamic scholar following the passing of Hafidh Professor Abdus Salaam Karaan.

It’s believed Professor Karaan passed away on Wednesday.

He was the eldest son of Hazrat Ml Yusuf Karaan.

Esteemed Islamic scholar Ml Fuaad Samai in a message reportedly circulating on social media says he had a very close relationship with Professor Karaan for many years.

“I remember when he was doing his Masters degree at Stellenbosch university. He would be writing exams the afternoon in Ramadaan and a few hours later  one and a quarter juz taraweeh every night. He was a brilliant Hafith. He also regularly performed the complete Quran in taraweeh the last three nights of Ramadan. He also established a Hifth school in Strand.”

Ml Samai says Professor Karaan  also did an in-depth study of all aayaat of Quran dealing with agriculture and related issues such as water among studies.

“He was nominated for the position of Rectorship of the University of Stellenbosch. When I asked him why he declined he replied that he made mashura with his father who advised him against it.”

May Allah ﷻ reward him fully with Jannatul Firdaus, Aameen
