The Muslim ummah has lost another esteemed scholar following the passing of Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA)at the age of 91.

Born in 1930, Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA) hailed from Halab(Aleppo) in the north of Syria and was raised in a family of scholars, his father Jameel, a leading Aalim of the city, being one of his first teachers.

The Syrian-born Aalim was acclaimed worldwide for his Tafaseer and other Islamic research works,

Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA) completed memorizing the Quraan at a young age and went on to receive instruction from some of the most famous Syrian Ulama of his time.

He was a graduate of the prestigious Khusrawiya Shariah School of Aleppo which was known for producing the some of the best students of Islamic sciences at the time.

Some of his teachers include Sheikh Mohammed Saeed al Idlibi, Sheikh Raaghib at Tabaagh and Sheikh Najeeb Khayata among others.

Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA) also served as an advisor with the Islamic World League on the Council for Scientific Research in the Quraan and the Sunnah.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Ml Obeidullah Boja, host of the Ulama Profile programme says the Muslim ummah has been left very much poorer by the passing of Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA)

“Leanring from great scholar, great Ulama, great people he has finally left this temporary abode on Yaumul Jumu’ah. We make due that Allah fill his qabr with noor, Allah make the Qur’an his companion in his qabr and may Allah replace the ummah with scholars the likes of Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA).”

Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Sabouni (RA) toured South Africa in 2013, staying the renowned Darul Uloom Newcastle where he delivered a series of lessons and featured prominently at the annual Khatme Bukhari Jalsah.
