The sister of Naadira Vanker says the 36-year-old man arrested for her murder was known to the family.

Naadira’s body was found on Wednesday in a shallow grave in a yard at Phumlamqashi after she was abducted from her flat in Lenasia South.

Lucky Mshubi, from Phumlamqashi near Lenasia South has since appeared in the dock on charges of murder, housebreaking with intent to rob, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.

Speaking to eNCA, Naadira’s sister Abida Genner says Mshubi was known to the family.

“It is someone that Naadira has fed, she’s given food to this guy. All we want is justice for our sister, that’s all we want, justice and we want the police to do their job properly.”

The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane says Mshubi has opted to abandon his bid for bail and to conduct his own defence when he reappears in court.

In the eNCA video report, the magistrate explained the legal proceedings to Mshubi and the charges he is facing.

“The offences you are facing, falls within the highest category of heinous crimes, that is schedule six.”

The matter was postponed to 26 June 2021 for further investigations.
