[LISTEN] Netanyahu ‘Dangling The Carrot’ To Gain The Support of African Leaders

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/11/29

The President of Chad has garnered the wrath of opposition leaders in the country following his controversial visit to Israel.

President Idriss Deby’s decision to visit Israel and his intention to establish diplomatic relations with it was kept under wraps.

Thembisa Fakude, a researcher for the Al Jazeera Center for Studies told Radio Islam that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has “dangled the carrot” to many African countries in exchange for their support.

“Promising investments, and cooperation on several things including injections on building infrastructure and cooperation on intelligence.”

Chad’s Alliance of Civil Associations for Jerusalem, a group of 22 civil organisations, issued a statement condemning Deby’s visit to Israel.

“We strongly denounce the president’s visit to the Zionist entity.”
