[LISTEN] Nikol Pashinyan Used Many Resources to Win Armenian Elections

Faizel Patel – 23/06/2021

The President of the International Centre Human Development (ICHD) Tevan Poghosyan says Nikol Pashinyan used administrative resources, financial means and engaged his allies to support him and engage in the Armenian elections.

Pashinyan won 53.9% of the vote in snap parliamentary polls called in an effort to defuse a political crisis after a war with Azerbaijan.

An alliance led by his rival, ex-leader Robert Kocharyan, came second with 21%.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Poghosyan says Pashinyan was popular because of the resources at his disposal.

“An issue here I think much more on the way that he strongly used administrative resource and strongly used financial means to try to engage his guys to so and support and participate in elections when all other failed to encourage voters to go to precinct and cast their votes.”

Poghosyan says it is very difficult to understand from which value system the Civil Contract party originates.

“Are they conservative, are they liberal, are they socialists, trying to trick by saying that we are pro-Armenian.”

Poghosyan says there may be deeper political crisis’ in Armenia in the future than before the election.
