With the country now under level one of the COVID-19 lockdown and local and international travel permitted, many within the Muslim community have enquired when the salaah facility at OR Tambo International Airport will be reopened to travellers.

The salaah facility was closed this year under level 3 of the Coronavirus lockdown until it was deemed safe for the place of worship to be reopened.

Speaking to Radio Islam, OR Tambo Musallah’s Muhammad Wadee says the Salaah facility will be reopened soon Insha’Allah.

Wadee says worshippers will be screened before entering the prayer facility and the wearing of masks including social distancing will be compulsory.

“The OR Tambo musallah in the basement is currently undergoing renovations which includes complying to the new COVID regulations. Musallah’s are being removed and the entire place is being tiled and other alterations are being made as well. Strict COVID protocols will be implemented to protect Muslim travellers and other Muslims that are praying in the facility.”

The move to level one of the COVID-19 lockdown has paved the way for allowing a maximum of fifty percent of the capacity of a masaajid to congregate for salaah.
