There are fears of the impact a planned strike by the taxi organisations in Cape Town for tomorrow will have on commuters. While the provincial government has called an urgent meeting with the SA National Taxi Council to try and prevent a mass stay-away, the PAC has called on taxi and bus organisations in the city to find a solution to the ongoing taxi strike.

Concerned about the impact and risks of the strike, PAC’s Xolani Vava appeals to all stakeholders for a sit-down and discussion on the matter.

Vava calls for taxi associations within the province to consider the community as the strike will affect workers and school children.

He suggests that a reasonable way forward is for taxi associations to transport workers and school children and commence with the strike, following transportation back home once the strike has ended.

Meanwhile, the challenge has been ongoing for a long time, and Vava says that the government should have already should urgently devise a solution.

“We would like to advise the government to sit down with taxi associations to find a solution to the ongoing taxi strikes,” he says.
