Palestinian Leaders Descend Upon Cape Town

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2016-07-27

Palestinians from across the political spectrum will be engaging in a weeklong dialogue to iron out differences and forge a common political vision for the future.

The second intra-Palestinian dialogue organised by the ‘In Transition Initiative’, a South African conflict resolution NGO led by Roelf Meyer, Ebrahim Ebrahim, Ivor Jenkins and Mahomed Bhabha, in partnership with the Institute for Palestine in South Africa will be held in Cape Town this year.

Senior Fatah official and former foreign minister, Dr Nabeel Shaath told Independent Media that this is a unique attempt to bring Palestinians together to reassess their national programme, strategy, unity, and future.

“This dialogue will go a long way towards assisting Palestinian parties and factions to reassess their strategy after years of struggle and failed negotiations with the Israelis.”

Among the participants are senior leaders from Fatah, Hamas, the Palestine National Initiative, Communist Party, Islamic Movement, Arab Party, Democratic Front and Popular Front.

The Palestinian forum will be addressed by South African Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, head of ANC International Relations Edna Molewa, former Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs and former ambassadors amongst others.
