Parking at Masajid Remains a Contentious Issue

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 01-06-2017

With a week of the blessed month of Ramadan already completed, the contentious issue of parking remains a problem at various masajid.

Every year Musallees are urged to be considerate when parking their cars when coming to the masjid for Taraweeh salaah or any other salaah throughout the year.

However some people do not heed to the considerations which results in inconveniencing those that cannot leave their homes because the exit has been blocked or others who can leave areas because their cars have been boxed in.

Radio Islam spoke to some musallees about this contentious issue.

Muhammad Saleem says people should be considerate when parking their cars.

“I think it’s very disrupting to people who want to leave Taraweeh and their cars are blocked by other people.”

While Moulana Habib Bobat says people should come early to the masjid.

“If he happens to come late and if he happens to double-park than he should be the first one out of the masjid when the salaah finishes.”

At the same time Moulana Yusuf Omar says committee members and mutawallees should consider extra parking bays, especially during Ramadan.

“It’s important when we have a parking space we also paint out parking bays. At many masjids you find there is a big parking space, but because there is no parking bays, that is what causes the confusion.”

In the past the parking issue has resulted in serious and physical altercations with some people coming to blows with others all because they were inconvenienced.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him show hospitality to his guest; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain good relation with kins; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent.”
