An unruly passenger was removed from a FlySafair flight after he refused to wear a mask onboard shortly after take-off.

According to the airline flight FA201 was supposed to depart from Cape Town International Airport and fly to OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday when the incident happened.

In a video circulating on social media by the Dominion Post, the passenger is seen acting aggressively towards cabin crew members before male passengers come to her aid and defuse the situation.

FlySafair says the captain was informed and it was decided the passenger should be removed from the aircraft.

“The flight deck team powered down and secured the aircraft, which was in the process of departure, and radioed for SAPS and for the stairs to be returned to the aircraft, in order to off load the unruly passenger.”

The flight departed just after 9am.

Under the current COVID-19 lockdown protocols in South Africa, wearing a mask is compulsory even if you are on a flight and you had a negative test.
