Plans in Place to Ensure 10111 Operate During Strike

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 19-07-2017

The South African Police Service (SAPS) says contingency plans are in place to ensure 10111 call centres continue to operate ahead of a strike by staff.

Call centre agents have threatened to bring operations to a halt today after wage talks deadlocked.

Hundreds of workers are expected to demonstrate outside provincial SAPS offices.

The police’s Sally de Beer says uniformed police officers will be deployed at the call centres to fill the positions vacated by striking employees.

“This is an essential service and there is a constitutional imperative to ensure that essential services are provided to our communities.”

SAPS says the strike has been classified as a protected strike and the “no work no pay” rule applies.
