Presidency scraps criminal allegations, confirms a robbery took place

By Neelam Rahim

Former State Security Agency boss Arthur Fraser recently alleged that President Cyril Ramaphosa tried to cover up a serious crime that occurred in February 2020.

According to Fraser, burglars in cahoots with the domestic worker broke into the President’s farm at Waterberg in Limpopo.

Tweeted earlier today, The Presidency has been made aware through a media statement that Mr Arthur Fraser has laid a complaint with the South African Police Service against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

President Ramaphosa is clear there is no basis for the claims of criminal conduct that have been made against him in Fraser’s statement.

President spokesperson Vicent Magwanya confirms that a robbery took place at the President’s farm in Limpopo in which proceeds from the sale of game were stolen, however disputes the US$4 million amount.

“The President was not present at the time of robbery as he was attending an African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. On been advised of the robbery President Cyril Ramaphosa reported the incident to the Head of the Presidential Protection Unit of the South African Police Service for investigation. Hereon the President felt comfortable that the matter will be dealt with appropriately. Upon further investigation by the Head of the Presidential Unit money was gone and it was then concluded with no arrests been made.

The President stands ready to co-operate with any law enforcement investigations of this matter. Anything beyond that will be pure speculation,” says Manwanya.

President Ramaphosa remains resolute in leading the fight against corruption, restoring the integrity and capability of public institutions and overcoming the legacy of State capture, and will not be deterred by disinformation campaigns.

Magwaya concludes stating that the President has not received any formal approach from the South African Police Service on this matter and that a lot of the details will unfold during the investigation that will follow.
