Today marks World Radio Day.

Now in its eighth year, WRD is an annual celebration of radio as a medium which raises awareness about the importance of radio and strengthens the networking among broadcasters.

The theme for this World Radio Day is ‘Dialogue, Tolerance, and Peace’.

The Director of Media Monitoring Africa, William Bird told Radio Islam the radio industry brings together people and communities from all backgrounds to foster positive dialogue for change.

“If we look at South Africa, our biggest audiences still come through radio, overwhelmingly so, we seeing a huge growth, and this is because people are mobile.”
