President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced government has given consideration to opening more of the economy.

The president addressed the nation on Wednesday on developments in the country’s risk-adjusted strategy to manage the spread of COVID-19.

Ramaphosa’s address follows a number of meetings of the Cabinet, the national coronavirus command Council and the presidential coordinating council.

Ramaphosa says there have been discussions with stakeholders, government officials and scientists on reopening these other sectors of the economy.

“Cabinet has decided to ease restrictions on restaurants for sit-down meals, accommodation facilities, conference facilities, cinemas and theatres, casinos, personal care services (including hairdressers and beauty services), non-contact sports, contact sports (but only for training).”

He says these activities will be permitted under level 3 of the COVID-19 regulations but with stringent rules which will be announced soon.

Ramaphosa says the dates for reopening of these sectors will be communicated to South Africans.

There are the changes to the Level 3 lockdown regulations.
