Ramaphosa Saddened by Chad President Idriss Déby Itno’s Death

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is Chad President Idriss Déby Itno’s death and concerned over developments in the country involving armed groups

The military announced that Déby Itnopassed away on Tuesday, following injuries he sustained while leading his military forces to repel a rebel attack.

Ramaphosa has extended his deepest condolences to his family, government and people of Chad.

Ramaphosa says an immediate cessation of violence is necessary to bring peace and stability to Chad as part of ending conflict on the continent.

The army says a military council led by the late president’s 37-year-old son Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, a four-star general, will replace him.
