Residents Protest Over Illegal Land Invasion in Lenasia

A group of residents protesting against illegal land invasion say they are not racist but just being realistic about the illegal occupation of land in Lenasia.

The residents protested at the K43 and N12 intersection just outside Lenasia on Tuesday

The peaceful protest also revolves around exacerbated crime, illegal electricity connections, pollution and other service delivery issues.

Speaking to Radio Islam, this resident says they are unhappy by the land grabs and government must take action.

“We are not racist, we are realistic. The issues is that government needs to find proper land to put these people in where it i safe for them and safe for us. Where they are currently on, it’s made it very unsafe for us.”

Another resident from Lenasia Extension 13 says “enough is enough” and something must be done about the illegal land grabbers.

“Since this invasion took place behind on Nana’s Farm, our crime has increased in Extension 13. We are having gunshots, hijackings and a lot of other things that’s happening in our area.”

The residents says that if the land grabbers continue to occupy land illegally, there will be continued protests by them over demands for electricity and other services making it unsafe for current residents to enter or leave areas including Lenasia, Lenasia South, Ennerdale, Eldorado Park, Klipspruit and Zakariya Park.
