SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 592,144 – Deaths Jump to 12,264

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 592,144.

This is an increase of 2,258 from Monday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 282 bringing the total to 12,264.

Gauteng has the most infections with 200,949 followed by Western Cape at 102,739, Eastern Cape at 84,144, KwaZulu-Natal 106,565, Free State 32,593, North West 23,445, Mpumalanga 21,717, Limpopo 11,813, Northern Cape 8,129 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 485,468 which translates to a recovery rate of 82%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,430,347 this is an increase of 14,677 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 282 new COVID-19 related deaths: 66 from Eastern Cape, 89 from Gauteng, 57 from KwaZulu Natal, 3 from Northern Cape, 13 from Free State, 34 from Western Cape and 20 from North West. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 12,264.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
