SACP at the ANC 55th Elective Conference

Yumna Moosa – yumna@radioislam.co.za

 19 December 2022 | 2 minute read | 12.00pm CAT

This weekend Radio Islam had the oppertunity to catch up with the South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Solly Mapaila at the 55th ANC elective conference, which took place in Johannesburg. Reflecting on all that the party still wishes to combat in its continuous mission after 101 years Mapaila says, “we have been reflecting deeply on the conditions of the working class in South Africa which are getting worse due to the capitalist system, imperialism and continued colonization’s of our resources. Largely because our people continue to live in poverty, it is an indictment not only on us, but on the cowards of the imperialist forces that continue to suck resources from developing countries: leaving people in poverty and misery while they live in luxury (in their own respective countries).”

Looking at the role of the SACP at the ANC conference, Solly relates that they do not vote at the conference but do have the right to contribute via speaking, which allows them to propose measures for policies. These become formalized as a decision of the ANC.

The General Secretary stated, “Our relationship with the ANC comes from the fact that we share a common struggle, which is the national democratic revolution. It is a common struggle to liberate South Africa from colonial domination. We have come out of British control, and we are solving the national question in the colonies. Our struggle against this had to liberate our people from racial and gender exploitation and oppression”.
