SAHUC: People Need to Respect Processes

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-10-2017

The President of the South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) says people need to respect processes of the organisation before passing criticism.

On Sunday, the hajj body elected new office bearers and board members for the next two years at its annual general meeting.

Following the AGM, a social media post severely criticised SAHUC claiming the organisation doesn’t have financial statements, makes huge profits, doesn’t pay tax and allegedly sponsors 20 hajj and umrah packages for the Ulama.

Another person on twitter posted: “Hope it was a nice game of musical chairs,” while on Facebook someone else posted: “Why was the AGM not advertised. Oh, I forget it never does.”

Moulana Mohamed Vaid who was elected President of SAHUC says the entire AGM was recorded and while there was an individual that wanted to be an observer at the gathering, he failed to follow protocol by applying for the observer status as laid down in the hajj body’s constitution.

“He was asked what his name is and who’s he representing. He gave his name and said he’s just an observer. He was asked if he followed procedure, the reply was in the negative. We read out the terms of how that needs to take place and he was duly asked to leave in a respectable manner which he fairly accepted and ethically abided by.”

Ml Vaid says if people have issues with SAHUC, it must be addressed directly with the organisation.

“The response we see in the public arena and to make a spat of that nature, is totally unethical and it totally uncalled for.”

Ml Vaid reiterated that SAHUC has a membership of 28 organisations which include the Muslim Judicial Council, United Ulama Council of South Africa, Jamiatul Ulama Council of South Africa and Darul Ihsaan amongst others to show the integrity of the organisation and wide representation from across the country.
