SAHUC Warns of Legal Action Against Hajj Operators who Fail to Refund Hujjaj for Hajj 2020

The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) says it will take legal action against hajj operators who fail to refund hujjaj for last year’s hajj.

Sahuc announced that majority of accredited operators have refunded hujjaj.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic and with travel restrictions in place, hajj last year was a limited and extraordinary event.

In a statement, Sahuc says all accredited hajj operators have until the 20th of February to ensure that hujjaj are refunded in full.

“Failure to refund the hujjaj, will result in legal action being taken by Sahuc as they will be in breach of the code of conduct.”

Sahuc has urged last years accredited hujjaj not to leave their money with an accredited operator or accept a credit voucher as the hajj body has not accepted these terms with operators.

“Sahuc will not be held responsible if you sign an agreement with any accredited hajj travel operator to leave your hajj refund with them for future travel. Operators are accredited annually and there is no guarantee that the operator you may have selected in the year 2020 (1441AH) may be accredited in the future.”

Sahuc says Saudi Arabia has not informed any country including South Africa about its Hajj plans for 2021/1442
