Saudi Arabian authorities have imposed a ban on entering holy sites in the Kingdom without a permit starting on Sunday as it braces for holding a limited Hajj this year due to fears of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reports indicate that security personnel will also stop entry into the holy sites of Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat without a permit.

Security personnel will be on duty on all roads leading to the holy sites to prevent violations and detect any illegal attempt to enter the places during the designated period.

Saudi Gazette reports that violations of the regulations is punishable by a SR10,000 fine that will be doubled in case of repetition.

The Kingdom announced that 70 percent of this year’s Hujjaj will be expatriate residents while the remaining 30 percent will be Saudis while the maximum number of participating hujjaj has been set at 10,000 to ensure a safe Hajj
