Security Guard Attacked in Sandton During Construction Workers Protest

Faizel Patel – 28/07/2021

The JMPD says a security guard has been attacked by protesters in Benmore Road, Sandton during a protest by construction workers.

The workers are claiming they have not been paid their wages.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says metro police are on scene

“There is currently a protest at Benmore Road and Lower Road in Sandton by approximately five hundred construction workers. The workers attacked the security guard and he jumped inside a patrol car and drove off with the JMPD patrol car to get away from the violent crowd. More officers have been sent to that location and the situation is now under control.”

Minnaar says the injured guard is being assessed by paramedics.
