Six Locations in Vienna Targeted Leaving 4 Dead and 15 Wounded

Four people have died after a shooting in the heart of Vienna, Austria, late Monday. This includes one assailant. Fifteen others, including a police officer, had been injured in last night’s attack.

Interior Minister Karl Nehammenr said two men and two woman have died from their injuries. Al Arabiya reports that a suspected attacker, carrying an assault rifle and a fake suicide vest, was shot and killed by police. Nehammer claimed initial investigations indicate that the suspect killed had sympathized with ISIS. He, however, refused to explain further.

Al Arabiya reports that many people were enjoying a last night out before the start of a coronavirus lockdown today, when the shooting began, just after 8pm. Vienna police tweeted: “Shots fired in the Inner City district – there are persons injured – KEEP AWAY from all public places or public transport.” Areas of the city were cordoned off as police searched for a suspect. Unverified Videos shared on social media show a gunman running down a cobblestone street shooting and shouting.

Jewish community leader, Oskar Deutsch, meanwhile, tweeted that it was not clear whether the Vienna synagogue and adjoining offices, which were closed at the time, had been the target of the attack.
