South African Hajj Quota Increased by One Thousand

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 15-02-2018

The Ministry of Hajj in Saudi Arabia has granted South Africa an additional quota of one thousand Hujjaj for 1439H (2018).

The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) says it was informed of the decision following a protocol signing meeting with the Hajj Ministry and some affiliates in the Kingdom on Thursday.

According to Sahuc the additional quota will only apply for the Hajj 1439/2018.

South Africa’s current hajj quota is 2,500 and with the additional one thousand extra granted for this year, will push up that number to three thousand five hundred.

Sahuc’s Moaaz Casoo says due to space constraints in Mina, the Ministry of Hajj has emphasised that the additional quota might be accommodated outside the borders of the tent city.

“Alhamdulillah, at a meeting with the Ministry of Hajj, the SAHUC delegation was presented with excellent news by way of an additional quota of One thousand Hujjaj for 1439H (2018) only. On behalf of the Sahuc board and NGC member organizations, firstly we need to thank our Creator Almighty ALLAH SWT who has made this increase in the quota for South Africa possible.”

Casoo has thanked South African Muslim communities for their continuous duas and says a third list of 1000 accredited Hujjaj has already been released.
