Soweto Cop Nabbed in Multi-Million Rand Drug Bust

Faizel Patel, 2016-06-09

Five men including a warrant officer from the Orlando Police Station have been arrested in connection with a drug bust worth an estimated R 100 million in De Deur, south of Johannesburg.

It’s understood the Hawks yesterday swooped on houses in Bassonia, De Deur and Zakariyya Park which allegedly belongs to the 59-year-old officer.

The polices Kalipha Mvula says the officer led the Hawks to his house in Bassonia and Zakariyya Park where chemicals and a drug lab were discovered.

“The Hawks conducted a raid at a house in Zakariyya Park. They found it was used to manufacture drugs. 5 people were arrested and amongst the five there is a police officer who’s working at the Orlando SAPS. The suspects have been charged with manufacturing and dealing in drugs.”

Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation National Head General Mthandazo Ntlemeza says the arrests come after a three month investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrates Court tomorrow.
