Lenasia residents have been urged to refrain from using the Eidgah prayer facility as a dumping site.

The Jamiatul Ulama Eidgah Committee says with the day of Eid just a few weeks away, they had to employ a large number of resources to get the area clean and ready for Eid.

The Eidgah site is used twice a year for Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha on the Islamic calendar.

The Jamiat’s Mohammed Yusuf Kaka has urged people to use the allocated dumping areas and keep the Eidgah site clean.

“Keeping the area clean is costing us a lot of money. People should stop using it a dumping site including allowing vagrants to sleep there.”

The city of Johannesburg has provided a number of dumping areas in Lenasia for residents to make use of.
