Tariq Ramadan’s Health Deteriorating Rapidly Following Detention In France

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/07/18

The eldest daughter of prominent Islamic Sciences Professor Tariq Ramadan, told Radio Islam that her father’s health is deteriorating rapidly.

Maryam, 31, says her father suffers from multiple sclerosis, however prior to detention, his health condition was under control.

“He was receiving all the treatment, so it was contained, now in prison he’s not. Six months later he can’t walk properly, he can’t walk without help, and he has severe cramps in his legs and very strong headaches and his now got memory issues.”

Maryam adds that her father was held in solitary confinement and denied any family contact.

“We’ve seen him for the past two or three days, however before that we never saw him, we never knew what was going on with him, we relied on news to find out about our father”.

Protests took place around the world to demand the release of Ramadan in France after being accused of rape.

Solidarity rallies as part of the Free Tariq Ramadan Campaign’s “International Day of Action” took place in 20 countries, including Turkey, Malaysia, Benin, Switzerland, France, Iran, the US and UK.
