The COVID-19 Infection Rate in SA Back in the Thousands

Sixty-two more people have died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 53,173

The Health Department says another 1,366 more infections were also picked up over the past day, pushing the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic a year to more than 1 554,975

Our recovery rate has dropped to 95.2% with just over 1,480,632 people having recuperated from the virus.

On the vaccine front, more than 286,629 healthcare workers have so far received the jab.

Meanwhile Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed the country will receive a batch of over a million vaccines from Johnson and Johnson within the next three weeks.

He was speaking in Soweto while inspecting vaccination sites in Gauteng ahead of the second phase of South Africa’s rollout.
