By Neelam Rahim

Ismat Siddiqui, the mother of a Pakistani woman jailed in the US, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, passed away in Karachi on Saturday.

As per details, her death news is confirmed by Pasban-e-Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor and Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, who is Aafia’s inmate’s sister. He said that her funeral timing was disclosed by the family later.

As per the report of Baaghi TV, Ismat Saddique breathed her last while looking forward to the discharge of her daughter Aafia Siddiqui from US prison. Ismat Siddiqui was affected by various diseases for an extended time. She was 80.

According to the Aafia Movement spokesperson, Ismat Siddiqui left three children, including Dr Aafia, in mourning.

Last week, the Islamabad Supreme Court (IHC) directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the family of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is serving a jail term in the US, in acquiring a US visa.

Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years imprisonment by a US court for allegedly shooting at USA and FBI officers while in custody in Afghanistan.

In its written verdict, the court also ordered the ministry to ensure that Dr Aafia’s family didn’t face hardship while travelling to the US. “The ministry must make sure the safety of Dr Aafia’s family during their visit to us to meet her last week,” the decision read.

Fouzia Siddiqui, the inmate’s sister, filed the petition within the Supreme Court, demanding that the government take measures to confirm a gathering between Dr Aafia and her family within the US prison.
