There needs to be some clarification about the Token Identifier Rollout across Johannesburg by City Power. Some people claiming to be community leaders have said that the project is no longer going ahead with the audit of meters in the area.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena discussed the Token Identifier Program globally underway with Radio Islam International.

He said in November 2024, the purchase of electronically generated numbers will end.

City Power is currently resetting and reprogramming meters to ensure all meters are innovative and TTI compliant across the City of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, etc., and has already started embarking on the program.

According to Mangena, an audit is underway, and meters found breached, bypassed, broken and faulty will be replaced with smart meters, reprogrammed by Cit Power to ensure effective rollover from November 2024.

Meanwhile, Mangena indicated that City Power has no employee named Majiet Amien, nor is he aligned with City Power.

He said Majiet had attempted to create panic and mislead residents of Lenasia and surrounding areas regarding the reprogramming of meters.

“City Power reassures the communities and hopes for a welcoming approach toward its employees and contractors at the homes in communities to assess the compliance of and replace old meters with smart meters,” he says.
