UUCSA Denounces Racism and Violent Unrests in Phoenix, Durban

Faizel Patel – 19/07/2021

The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has strongly denounced racism and those who would like to drag South Africa back to its colonial past.

UUCSA released a statement following the escalation of communal tensions in Durban, particularly in the Phoenix area where a number of fatalities have been reported.

The organisation’s Ml Yusuf Patel says the nation has endured a traumatic past on account of tenuous interracial relations.

“In 1994, we committed to work towards a national project of unity based on mutual respect and harmonious pluralistic co-existence. South Africans of different persuasions aspired to confront the bane of racialism until it ceases to define them.”

UUCSA has called upon all compatriots across the racial divide to be circumspect in their characterisation of our social challenges on racial lines.

Below is the full statement from UUCSA
