Four Gauteng holidaymakers aged 21 to 52 are expected to appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court after allegedly assaulting lifeguards at Manaba Beach in KwaZulu-Natal.

Video footage being circulated on social media shows multiple skirmishes between the men and the lifeguards.

It is believed that the fight broke out after the beachgoers were in disagreement with the lifeguards who were enforcing rules over how far they could swim.

Provincial police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm is being investigated by Margate police.

“Four sustained injuries and among the four, one sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.”
