Who is Sheikh Husain bin Abdul Aziz aal-Sheikh, this year’s Arafah Khateeb

Radio Islam International | 20 August 2018

Sheikh Hussein bin Abdul Aziz Aal Sheikh is a descendant of the tribe of Bani Tamim, Saudi Arabia. His family traces its roots to Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahab bin Suleiman Al Musharraf Tamimi.

He was born in 1964.

After completing his elementary education, Sheikh Hussein embarked on a journey to study Shariah. This took him to the faculty of Shariah in Riyadh from where he attained a Bachelor’s degree. His hunger for complete knowledge led him to qualify with honours, with a thesis titled “The Judgment of the Limits in the Islamic Shari’a”. His subsequent Ph.D. thesis was titled “The Fiqh bases of the Islamic Advocacy”.

He obtained his masters at the Imam Muhammad bin Saud University and the PhD from the Higher Judicial Institute.

Sheikh Hussein bin Abdul Aziz Aal-Sheikh studied under well-renowned Shuyookh, such as the Saudi Arabia’s former Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz ibn Baaz (RA), Sheikh Abdullah Al Jibrin and Sheikh Abdul Aziz Dawood in the fields of Fiqh and Hadith, and Sheikh Abdullah Ghadian in Usoolul Fiqh.

After graduating, Sheikh Hussein Al-Sheikh was appointed as a judge in 1411 at the High Court of the city of Najran. In 1412, he was given authority to handle matters of the High Court in the capital Riyadh before shifting base to the Grand Court of the city of Madinah after having served for 6 years.

Sheikh Hussein was in 1998 granted the coveted designation of becoming Imam and Khateeb in Masjid An Nabawi, a profile he still holds.  He also teaches in Masjid Nabawi (SAW).

From his notable students is Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Taalib Hameed, another current Imam of Masjid an Nabawi (SAW).

In 1439/2018, he was appointed to deliver the Arafah Khutbah, a coveted honour, usually reserved for Saudi Arabia’s highest religious authority.
