Why Israel? The Anatomy of Zionist Apartheid: A Book by Suraya Dadoo & Firoz Osman

Jun 26, 2013

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-06-26

Why Israel? The Anatomy of Zionist Apartheid – A South African Perspective is one of the most hard-hitting books on Israeli Apartheid to be released in South Africa.

Authored by the Media Review Network’s (MRN) Suraya Dadoo a researcher and Firoz Osman an Executive member, it’s a comprehensive, easy-to-understand investigation of Israel’s colonisation of Palestine, covering almost every facet of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The book uses short, concise chapters to trace the historical origins of the conflict by clearly and simply describing how Zionist Apartheid is implemented. It also highlights why the Apartheid analogy can be used to describe Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, and how it differs from the South African version.

Why Israel? showcases Apartheid Israel’s violation of international laws and the consequences for Palestinians and how various pro-Israel lobbies, globally, have been able to maintain Israel’s reputation in the West in spite of its Apartheid practices.

Speaking to Radio Islam’s Moulana Sulaiman Ravat, Suraya Dadoo said book came out in response to Zionists and in response to activists and others who wanted to understand the issue of Israeli Apartheid better.

These sentiments were echoed by co-author Firoz Osman. He said that writing a book is sometimes harder than practicing medicine and although he and Suraya were both involved in their daily work and activities, the book managed to get written and published.

Why Israel?  has received high praise from renowned personalities.  Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu says, “A simple and thorough book that deals with the core issues underlying the conflict in the holy land.”

John Dugard, a former UN Special Rapporteur ON Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory says, “This book provides an instructive and fair account of the similarities between the Israel regime and the Apartheid regime of the “old South Africa. Hopefully, it will raise public awareness of a situation that, like Apartheid, must be brought to an end.”

While Ronny Kasrils an ANC veteran, former South African Government Minister who penned the forward says, “A comprehensive and powerful response to anyone that denies Israel is an Apartheid state.

Why Israel? (Published by Porcupine Press, 2013) is available at all bookstores throughout South Africa, and from online retailers, at a recommended retail price of R200-00. E-book and Kindle versions are also available.
