Put it in the pressure cooker when cooking. This will prevent the inside of the cooker from turning black. <\/p>\n<p>&bull; Dry lemons are also effective. Rub the surface of a chopping board with a halved lemon to get rid of onion, garlic or fish smell. It works for the hands too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&bull; To remove unpleasant odours from the oven, place a wide pan with warm water in which used tea leaves have been added and leave it to stand in the oven for some time. Even a bowl of warm water with vinegar or lime juice does the trick.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To stop the jam bubbling out of jam tarts before the pastry is cooked; simply keep the jam in the fridge before use &#8211; simple but effective. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you have a glut of tomatoes, freeze them whole, then when you need for cooking run them under the tap for a few seconds and slide off the skin.&nbsp; They can be sliced while frozen and are also quick and easy to deseed when half thawed.&nbsp; Once frozen tomatoes can only be used for cooking purposes, they are not suitable for salads. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To reduce cooking time for meat by almost one-third, marinate it for at at least 12 hours if possible. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Chop or slice onions as onions forms a base in our Indian dishes. Store sliced or chopped onions in a Ziploc bag or an air tight container in the fridge. In that way when want to cook you have them quickly at hand. <br \/>A majority of the time when onions are used in Indian cooking, the recipe calls for them to be browned. Make up a batch ahead of time and store in your fridge. Make both chopped and sliced browned onions. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We certainly cannot do with our our rotis and puris as it goes well with any Indian dish. <br \/>Roti or puri dough made in advance will keep in the fridge for about 3 to 4 days, so why not make up a batch and see how easy it is for u. U could also pre cook your roti&rsquo;s and freeze them. Thaw out when u require them. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ginger and garlic are also vital ingredients in Indian cooking. Buy ginger and garlic when it is in season. Make up your own ginger garlic paste and label and freeze them. <br \/>If you make your own ginger, garlic and fresh chilli pastes at home, ensure a longer life by adding a tablespoon of hot vegetable\/ canola\/ sunflower cooking oil to them and mixing well. Refrigerate and use as required. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fresh coriander\/dhania is often used in Indian cooking as an ingredient during the preparation of a dish or as a garnish after the dish is ready. It also perishes quickly. The next time you buy fresh coriander, keep it fresh for longer by chopping off the roots and then wrapping the leaves in a sheet of newspaper. Store in the crisper section of your refrigerator. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tomatoes can be liquidised ahead of time and stored in ice-cubes trays. When frozen remove from tray and sore in zip lock freezer bags. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you have peeled more potatoes than required, keep them in cold water to which 1 tsp vinegar has been added. They will keep fresh for 4 to 5 days. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Add a little salt to water in which potatoes are to be boiled, for making cutlets. The potatoes absorb salt better this way. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When mint leaves are plentiful, dry them in the sun. Powder and add salt and cumin\/jeera powder to it. Store in an airtight container and use it to garnish your dishes. <br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cornflakes make a wonderful substitute for breadcrumbs.
