As Gaza endures relentless bombardment and siege, the staggering civilian death toll continues to haunt the conscience of the international community. More than 66,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, with some reports suggesting the real figure could exceed half a million when accounting for those still buried under rubble.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Islam International<\/em>,<\/a> Cape Town Sociologist and Veteran Activist Na\u2019eem Jinnah described the Gaza situation as \u201ca genocide in which the perpetrators have mainly targeted civilians.\u201d He noted that \u201cwhole neighbourhoods, homes, hospitals and mosques have been flattened,\u201d while Gaza\u2019s people endure repeated displacement within a confined 360 square kilometre area. \u201cSome have been forced to move up to ten times,\u201d he said, highlighting that Israel\u2019s blockade has cut off basic necessities, \u201cliterally starving the population for months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recent weeks have also seen the Global Samud Aid Flotilla, carrying humanitarian volunteers including Nelson Mandela\u2019s grandson, violently intercepted in international waters. Dozens of peace activists were detained and allegedly mistreated by Israeli forces. \u201cThese attacks on peaceful aid ships are clear violations of international law,\u201d said Jinnah, arguing that the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) act \u201cwith complete impunity, backed by the silence or complicity of global powers.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further condemned what he called \u201cthe hypocrisy of international law,\u201d pointing to how Western nations swiftly condemned Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine yet remains \u201ccontent to watch a genocide unfold in Gaza.\u201d Jinnah said the legal and moral double standards are \u201crooted in the racist history of international law,\u201d which was \u201cdesigned to serve Europeans, not the global south.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tracing decades of impunity, Jinnah reminded listeners that \u201cthe Zionist project\u2019s violations of law began long before 1948,\u201d citing historical massacres such as Deir Yassin, where he said atrocities were committed \u201con the blood and bodies of Palestinians.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the world bears witness to Gaza\u2019s ongoing annihilation, activists insist that solidarity movements must intensify pressure for justice. \u201cEven the notion of human rights,\u201d Jinnah warned, \u201cwas historically shaped by those who never intended it for all humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Gaza genocide remains a searing reminder that the promise of \u201cnever again\u201d still rings hollow for much of the global south.<\/p>\n
