Just as bodies can be healthy or ill, strong or weak, the qalb can also be alive, diseased, hardened, or pure. Understanding the different types of hearts helps us recognize our own state \u2014 and strive toward the highest goal: a qalb saleem, a sound heart.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1\ufe0f. The Diseased Heart (Qalb Mareed)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allah says:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ufd3f\u0641\u0650\u064a \u0642\u064f\u0644\u064f\u0648\u0628\u0650\u0647\u0650\u0645 \u0645\u0651\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0636\u064c \u0641\u064e\u0632\u064e\u0627\u062f\u064e\u0647\u064f\u0645\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064f \u0645\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0636\u064b\u0627\ufd3e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased their disease.\u201d (Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 10)<\/p>\n<p>A diseased heart is not physically sick \u2014 it is spiritually sick. Its diseases include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrogance<\/li>\n<li>Envy<\/li>\n<li>Hypocrisy<\/li>\n<li>Love of sin<\/li>\n<li>Doubt in truth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When unchecked, these diseases grow. When he refrains from it, seeks forgiveness and repents, his heart is polished clean. But if he returns, it increases until it covers his entire heart. And that is the \u2018Ran\u2019 which Allah mentioned: \u2018Nay, but on their hearts is the Ran which they used to earn.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 (Tirmidhi 3334)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2\ufe0f. The Hardened Heart (Qalb Qasi)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another dangerous state is the hardened heart. Allah says:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ufd3f\u062b\u064f\u0645\u0651\u064e \u0642\u064e\u0633\u064e\u062a\u0652 \u0642\u064f\u0644\u064f\u0648\u0628\u064f\u0643\u064f\u0645 \u0645\u0650\u0651\u0646 \u0628\u064e\u0639\u0652\u062f\u0650 \u0630\u064e\u0670\u0644\u0650\u0643\u064e \u0641\u064e\u0647\u0650\u064a\u064e \u0643\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0652\u062d\u0650\u062c\u064e\u0627\u0631\u064e\u0629\u0650 \u0623\u064e\u0648\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u0634\u064e\u062f\u0651\u064f \u0642\u064e\u0633\u0652\u0648\u064e\u0629\u064b\ufd3e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder.\u201d (Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 74)<\/p>\n<p>A hardened heart no longer feels remorse. It hears Qur\u2019an but is unmoved. It sees reminders but does not reflect. It may perform acts outwardly, yet without humility or softness.<\/p>\n<p>Hardness develops gradually \u2014 through persistent sin, neglect of dhikr, and excessive attachment to dunya.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3\ufe0f<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><strong> The Living and Sound Heart (Qalb Saleem)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The highest and most beautiful state is the qalb saleem \u2014 the sound, pure heart.<\/p>\n<p>Allah tells us that ultimate success depends on it:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ufd3f\u064a\u064e\u0648\u0652\u0645\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0627 \u064a\u064e\u0646\u0641\u064e\u0639\u064f \u0645\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064c \u0648\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0627 \u0628\u064e\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064e \u06dd \u0625\u0650\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0627 \u0645\u064e\u0646\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064e \u0628\u0650\u0642\u064e\u0644\u0652\u0628\u064d \u0633\u064e\u0644\u0650\u064a\u0645\u064d\ufd3e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit, except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.\u201d (Surah Ash-Shu\u2018ara 26: 88\u201389)<\/p>\n<p><em>A qalb saleem is a heart:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Free from shirk<\/li>\n<li>Free from hatred and envy<\/li>\n<li>Sincere in worship<\/li>\n<li>Humble before Allah<\/li>\n<li>Compassionate toward people<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It does not mean perfection. It means purity of direction. Its love is for Allah. Its fear is of displeasing Him. Its hope is in His mercy.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa described the believer\u2019s heart as sensitive and aware:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0645\u064e\u062b\u064e\u0644\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0645\u064f\u0624\u0652\u0645\u0650\u0646\u0650 \u0643\u064e\u0645\u064e\u062b\u064e\u0644\u0650 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u062e\u064e\u0627\u0645\u064e\u0629\u0650 \u0645\u0650\u0646\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0632\u0651\u064e\u0631\u0652\u0639\u0650 \u0645\u0650\u0646\u0652 \u062d\u064e\u064a\u0652\u062b\u064f \u0623\u064e\u062a\u064e\u062a\u0652\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0651\u0650\u064a\u062d\u064f \u0643\u064e\u0641\u064e\u0623\u064e\u062a\u0652\u0647\u064e\u0627\u060c \u0641\u064e\u0625\u0650\u0630\u064e\u0627 \u0627\u0639\u0652\u062a\u064e\u062f\u064e\u0644\u064e\u062a\u0652 \u062a\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0641\u0651\u064e\u0623\u064f \u0628\u0650\u0627\u0644\u0652\u0628\u064e\u0644\u0627\u064e\u0621\u0650\u060c \u0648\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0652\u0641\u064e\u0627\u062c\u0650\u0631\u064f \u0643\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0623\u064e\u0631\u0652\u0632\u064e\u0629\u0650 \u0635\u064e\u0645\u0651\u064e\u0627\u0621\u064e \u0645\u064f\u0639\u0652\u062a\u064e\u062f\u0650\u0644\u064e\u0629\u064b \u062d\u064e\u062a\u0651\u064e\u0649 \u064a\u064e\u0642\u0652\u0635\u0650\u0645\u064e\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064f \u0625\u0650\u0630\u064e\u0627 \u0634\u064e\u0627\u0621\u064e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes.&#8221; (Bukhari 5644, Muslim 2810)<\/p>\n<p>A soft heart bends in humility, not in rebellion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Goal of Ramadhan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ramadhan is not just about abstaining from food \u2014 it is about moving from a diseased or hardened heart toward a qalb saleem.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fasting softens pride.<\/li>\n<li>Charity removes greed.<\/li>\n<li>Qur\u2019an cleanses doubt.<\/li>\n<li>Tawbah erases stains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Every act of worship this month is a tool for polishing the heart.<\/p>\n<p>As we close this first phase of understanding the heart and soul, we must ask ourselves honestly:<\/p>\n<p>Is my heart soft or hardened?<\/p>\n<p>Does it respond to Allah\u2019s words?<\/p>\n<p>What diseases do I need to treat?<\/p>\n<p>Because on the Day of Judgment, success will not depend on how much we owned, but on the condition of our hearts.<\/p>\n<p>May Allah grant us hearts that are alive, humble, and sound \u2014 hearts that return to Him purified.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Renewal of the Heart and Soul Phase 1 &#8211; Entering Ramadhan &#8211; Understanding the Heart and Soul Know Your Heart, Awaken Your Soul Types of Hearts and the Goal of Qalb Saleem As we journey through Ramadhan seeking renewal of the heart and soul, we must ask an important question: Are all hearts the same?
