We fast. We pray. We attend Taraweeh Salaah. We read Qur\u2019an. Outwardly, everything appears in place. But here is a critical question<strong>: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Is our heart truly present?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Islam does not only call us to worship \u2014 it calls us to conscious worship.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Allah says:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ufd3f\u0642\u064e\u062f\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0644\u064e\u062d\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0645\u064f\u0624\u0652\u0645\u0650\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064e \u06dd \u0627\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0630\u0650\u064a\u0646\u064e \u0647\u064f\u0645\u0652 \u0641\u0650\u064a \u0635\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0627\u062a\u0650\u0647\u0650\u0645\u0652 \u062e\u064e\u0627\u0634\u0650\u0639\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064e\ufd3e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuccessful indeed are the believers \u2014 those who are humble and focused in their prayer.\u201d (Surah Al-Mu\u2019minun 23: 1\u20132)<\/p>\n<p>Notice that Allah did not simply say \u201cthose who pray.\u201d He specified those who pray with khushu\u02bf \u2014 humility, attentiveness, presence of heart. This teaches us that actions alone are not the measure of success; the state of the heart during the action is what elevates it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worship without awareness becomes habit. Habit without reflection becomes emptiness.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa warned that a person may fast but gain nothing from it:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0631\u064f\u0628\u0651\u064e \u0635\u064e\u0627\u0626\u0650\u0645\u064d \u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0633\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0647\u064f \u0645\u0650\u0646\u0652 \u0635\u0650\u064a\u064e\u0627\u0645\u0650\u0647\u0650 \u0625\u0650\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u062c\u064f\u0648\u0639\u064f <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps a fasting person gains nothing from his fast except hunger and thirst.\u201d (Ibn Majah 1690)<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a powerful warning. It means fasting can become physical deprivation without spiritual elevation \u2014 if the heart is absent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, he \ufdfa said regarding prayer:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0625\u0650\u0646\u0651\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0651\u064e\u062c\u064f\u0644\u064e \u0644\u064e\u064a\u064e\u0646\u0652\u0635\u064e\u0631\u0650\u0641\u064f \u0648\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627 \u0643\u064f\u062a\u0650\u0628\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0647\u064f \u0625\u0650\u0644\u0627\u0651\u064e \u0639\u064f\u0634\u0652\u0631\u064f \u0635\u064e\u0644\u0627\u064e\u062a\u0650\u0647\u0650 \u062a\u064f\u0633\u0652\u0639\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u062b\u064f\u0645\u064f\u0646\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u0633\u064f\u0628\u064f\u0639\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u0633\u064f\u062f\u064f\u0633\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u062e\u064f\u0645\u064f\u0633\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u0631\u064f\u0628\u064f\u0639\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u062b\u064f\u0644\u064f\u062b\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627 \u0646\u0650\u0635\u0652\u0641\u064f\u0647\u064e\u0627<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A man returns after saying his prayer while a tenth part of his prayer, or a ninth part, or an eight part, or a seventh part, or a sixth part, or a fifth part, or a third part, or half of it, is recorded for him. (Abu Dawud 796)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why? Because the heart wandered. The body stood before Allah, but the mind was elsewhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ramadhan is meant to awaken us from this autopilot mode. Fasting disrupts routine so that we become conscious again. Hunger slows us down. Thirst humbles us. Night prayers remove distractions.<\/p>\n<p>Allah reminds us:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ufd3f\u0648\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0627 \u062a\u064e\u0643\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0627 \u0643\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0630\u0650\u064a\u0646\u064e \u0646\u064e\u0633\u064f\u0648\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064e \u0641\u064e\u0623\u064e\u0646\u0633\u064e\u0627\u0647\u064f\u0645\u0652 \u0623\u064e\u0646\u0641\u064f\u0633\u064e\u0647\u064f\u0645\u0652\ufd3e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not be like those who forgot Allah, so He caused them to forget themselves.\u201d (Surah Al-Hashr 59: 19)<\/p>\n<p>Forgetting Allah leads to spiritual numbness. Worship becomes mechanical. The heart becomes disengaged.<\/p>\n<p>The danger of worship without awareness is subtle. A person may believe they are spiritually progressing, while in reality they are simply repeating motions. <strong>True awakening begins when we ask:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why am I fasting?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who am I standing before in prayer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Allah teaching me through this hunger?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When intention is revived, routine transforms into purpose.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa used to make this du\u02bf\u0101:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064f\u0645\u0651\u064e \u0625\u0650\u0646\u0651\u0650\u064a \u0623\u064e\u0639\u064f\u0648\u0630\u064f \u0628\u0650\u0643\u064e \u0645\u0650\u0646\u0652 \u0642\u064e\u0644\u0652\u0628\u064d \u0644\u064e\u0627 \u064a\u064e\u062e\u0652\u0634\u064e\u0639\u064f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cO Allah, I seek refuge in You from a heart that does not humble itself.\u201d (Muslim 2722)<\/p>\n<p><strong>A heart that does not feel, reflect, or soften is in danger \u2014 even if the limbs are active in worship.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Ramadhan, our goal is not merely to complete acts of worship, but to experience them. To stand in prayer aware that Allah sees us. To fast knowing He is pleased with our restraint. To give charity feeling gratitude, not superiority.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The difference between routine and renewal is presence of heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So today, as we continue fasting, let us slow down. Let us bring intention back into our acts.
