Makes 2 dates loaves.<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<p>500g pitted dates<\/p>\n<p>1 level tsp bicarbonate of soda<\/p>\n<p>Enough boiling water to cover the dates<\/p>\n<p>2 large eggs<\/p>\n<p>500g self-raising flour<\/p>\n<p>1 cup soft brown sugar<\/p>\n<p>200g salted butter<\/p>\n<p>\u00be cup sunflower oil<\/p>\n<p>1 \u00bd tsp cinnamon powder<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd tsp nutmeg powder<\/p>\n<p>1 cup walnuts, chopped roughly<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp baking powder<\/p>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<p>Tip the dates in a bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Sprinkle the bicarbonate of soda over the dates.<\/p>\n<p>Pour enough boiling water to cover the dates.<\/p>\n<p>Leave aside for half an hour.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate mixing bowl, mix the eggs, butter, oil together.<\/p>\n<p>Add the brown sugar and mix well until the sugar has dissolved.<\/p>\n<p>Add the nutmeg, cinnamon, flour, walnuts and baking powder. Lastly pour in the soaked dates with the water.<\/p>\n<p>Mix well with a wooden spoon until the flour and wet ingredients have incorporated.<\/p>\n<p>Pour into 2 well-greased loaf tins. Bake at 180C in a preheated oven for 30 \u2013 40 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle of the loaf comes out clean. Leave to cool for 10 minutes before turning the cake out on a cooling rack.<\/p>\n<p>Cut into slices when the cake has completely cooled down.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a must have in our home for Eid!
