Togo is a West African nation on the Gulf of Guinea. It features a sandy, lagoon-lined coast with palm beaches, central hilltop villages, and a northern savannah. The capital is Lom\u00e9. Koutammakou, inhabited by the Batammariba people, is a traditional settlement of fortress-like clay huts dating to the 17th century.<\/p>\n
Brother Yussif, a teacher and raqi from Ghana, shared his insights on Togo, mentioning that for those who might not be familiar with the country, Togo is a unique, diverse country from beautiful beaches in Lome to cultural villages and historical influences all across the land. What makes Togo unique as a travel choice is the fact that it is peaceful and less crowded than other popular holiday destinations.<\/p>\n
Language is often the key to understanding a place. French is the official language of Togo and traditional languages are also commonly spoken. English is limited but some basic English is spoken in the tourist areas, making it easy for South Africans to communicate when they visit the region.<\/p>\n
According to Yussif, Togolese culture is \u201cwarm, respectful and community-oriented\u201d. In the central and northern regions, there is a visible Muslim presence, with some masaajid in Lome and an established practice of Islam.<\/p>\n
The safe and calm nature of Togo make it good destination for families looking to go on a relaxing holiday. Accommodation ranges from hotels to guesthouses and serviced apartments, all pretty much affordable.<\/p>\n
Togo is known for its coastline of sandy beaches and palm trees, with warm sea breezes wafting across them. More laid-back than other commercial resorts, the beaches at Lome offer popular activities like beach walks, fishing, boat rides and horse-riding on the sand.<\/p>\n
The best time of the year to visit this country is in the dry season, from November to March, when avoiding the heavy rains makes travel easier.<\/p>\n
Islam is a growing minority religion in Togo, with about under 20% of Muslims among the population, a significant presence in urban areas like Lom\u00e9. The cuisine of a country often leaves a lasting impression, but for Muslim travellers, the main concern is halal food. Halal food is available in Togo a, with dishes like grilled fish, chicken, guinea fowl and Akpan made from fermented maize that should travellers be sure to try.<\/p>\n
Togo\u2019s welcoming communities, scenic landscapes, and accessible amenities make it ideal for both adventure and relaxation. Whether exploring vibrant markets or relaxing on palm-fringed beaches, visitors are sure to find lasting memories in this West African gem.<\/p>\n
