Earth is an Amanah<\/strong><\/p>\n

What Are We Leaving Behind?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’ve talked about waste, water, cleanliness, and our role as khalifah. But today we ask the deepest question of all: When we leave this earth \u2013 and we will leave it<\/em> \u2013 what will we leave behind? What will be written in our book of deeds long after our bones have returned to the soil?<\/p>\n

Dear listeners, imagine for a moment that you have passed away. Your janazah prayer has been offered. Your body has been returned to the earth. Your soul is in the hands of Allah. Now imagine someone walking along a path you used to walk. They bend down. They pick up a piece of litter. That reward \u2013 does it reach you?<\/p>\n

Yes. It does. If you planted a tree that still gives shade, if you dug a well that still gives water, if you taught someone to care for the earth and they continued after you \u2013 all of that flows into your grave as\u00a0sadaqah jariyah<\/em>. Ongoing charity. A river of reward that never stops.<\/p>\n

The Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa said:\u00a0“When a human being dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”<\/em>\u00a0(Sahih Muslim)<\/p>\n

Now think carefully, dear listeners. Most of us think of sadaqah jariyah as building a masjid or digging a well. And those are beautiful. But what about planting a forest? What about protecting a river from pollution? What about starting a community recycling programme? What about raising children who grow up knowing that the earth is an\u00a0amanah<\/em>?<\/p>\n

These are also sadaqah jariyah. Because every bird that nests in that tree, every person who drinks from that clean river, every family that recycles because of what you started \u2013 all of it writes good deeds in your book. Even after you have met your Lord.<\/p>\n

Allah \ufdfb says in the Qur’an:<\/p>\n

“That Day, the people will depart in separate groups to be shown their deeds. So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it. And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”<\/em>\u00a0(Surah Az-Zalzalah, 99: 6-8)<\/p>\n

An atom’s weight. The smallest thing you can imagine. A seed planted. A piece of litter removed. A tap turned off. A child taught to love the earth. All of it is weighed. All of it is seen.<\/p>\n

So let me ask you directly: What are you leaving behind?<\/p>\n

Are you leaving behind a legacy of excess \u2013 filled bins, wasted water, polluted streets? Or are you leaving behind a legacy of\u00a0barakah<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 shade trees, clean parks, mindful children, a community that cares?<\/p>\n

The Prophet \ufdfa said:\u00a0“If a Muslim plants a tree or sows a seed, and then a bird, a person, or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as charity for him.”<\/em>\u00a0(Bukhari)<\/p>\n

Not just a tree in your garden. Any tree. Any seed. Any act that benefits creation. That is sadaqah jariyah. And it never stops.<\/p>\n

Now let me give you\u00a0practical commitments<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 small enough to start today, big enough to last beyond you.<\/p>\n

Commitment One: Plant Something This Week<\/strong>
\nIt does not have to be a forest. A single indigenous tree. A herb garden on your windowsill. A seed in your backyard. Water it. Protect it. Know that every creature that benefits from it will write good deeds for you \u2013 even after you are gone.<\/p>\n

Commitment Two: Teach One Person<\/strong>
\nBefore this week ends, teach one person one thing you have learned. Tell your child why we turn off the tap during wudhu. Tell your neighbour why we do not waste food. Tell your friend that picking up litter is charity. Knowledge that spreads is sadaqah jariyah.<\/p>\n

Commitment Three: Start One Small Sunnah<\/strong>
\nChoose one environmental Sunnah and make it your permanent habit. Never leave a tap running. Never throw away food that could be saved. Never walk past litter without picking it up. Consistency, not perfection, is what Allah loves.<\/p>\n

You will not be on this earth forever. Neither will I. But the trees we plant will stand. The wells we dig will flow. The children we teach will teach their children. And the earth \u2013 this beautiful, wounded, trusting earth \u2013 will remember who honoured the\u00a0amanah<\/em>\u00a0and who did not.<\/p>\n

On the Day of Judgment, every drop of wasted water will testify. Every piece of litter you ignored will speak. But also \u2013 every tree you planted will shade you. Every creature you helped will plead for you. Every person you taught will pray for you.<\/p>\n

So leave a legacy that outlasts you. Not a legacy of waste, but a legacy of mercy. Not a legacy of excess, but a legacy of balance. Not a legacy of neglect, but a legacy of love for Allah’s creation. Earth is an\u00a0amanah<\/em>. You are the caretaker.<\/strong><\/p>\n
